Frequently Asked Questions regarding Premium Membership, including Equipment Insurance

How Much is covered?

Musicians Network Premium covers £10m PLI. The Exclusive Equipment Insurance is for whatever amount you need. Our example deal is for £10,000, which costs £100. If you have for instance £20,000 of gear, you can get a quote for the extra £10,000 (or whatever amount) direct from Sharrocks and you get our Exclusive Discount if you are an Musicians Network Premium Member

£2,000 is covered if you need to hire equipment if yours is damaged and insured under this Policy

We always recommend you read the Policy to ensure it's right for you and that you understand the cover it offers

Which items are covered?

Pretty much all your Equipment, whether DJ or Photobooth related. The Policy describes these as:

DJ and Related Electrical Equipment (incl. audio visual equipment, mobile dancefloors, smoke machines, foam canons and the like)

Photobooths and Accessories

Props, Sets & Wardrobe

Musical Instruments

We always recommend you read the Policy to ensure it's right for you and that you understand the cover it offers

Which items are not covered?

Portable Computer Equipment, Mobile Phones/Tablets are not covered under this Policy

Other Insurers may offer cover for these, but normally put many restrictions in place regarding age, ownership from new etc. Meaning that in reality, you won't get much back (if anything) in case of a claim

We always recommend you read the Policy to ensure it's right for you and that you understand the cover it offers

Where is my equipment covered?

Great Britain Northern Ireland the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands. Within those areas, pretty much anywhere, so long as it's out of sight and locked away.

We always recommend you read the Policy to ensure it's right for you and that you understand the cover it offers

Is my gear covered in the car?

Yes, so long as the car is locked and immobilised (if available) and the equipment is out of sight, ideally in a locked compartment (like the boot)

We always recommend you read the Policy to ensure it's right for you and that you understand the cover it offers

My car has tinted windows, is my equipment covered?

That would depend how tinted they are, most tinted windows (that are legal) still allow you to see through them. The policy insists that equipment be out of sight, so in addition to tinted windows, you would still need to cover the equipment so it cannot be seen.

Much comes down to the kind of sensible precautions you would normally take to secure your equipment. If you leave it in sight, then you should expect someone to try and steal it.

We always recommend you read the Policy to ensure it's right for you and that you understand the cover it offers

Is my equipment covered when stored in a remote storage unit?

Yes, so long as precautions are taken. You would normally make sure that any equipment stored remotely is locked away with alarms and maybe CCTV, to prevent as as much as possible, anyone gaining access to it

We always recommend you read the Policy to ensure it's right for you and that you understand the cover it offers

How much will I get back if I claim?

The Policy is there to reinstate your loss in case of theft or damage. The policy should be read of course to fully understand this. In a nutshell, the Insurers will repair or replace the equipment to a value of the equipment when it was new.

They will not replace a cheap item with the latest high value equivalent. The principal being that they will protect your investment, not assist you in updating your equipment

We always recommend you read the Policy to ensure it's right for you and that you understand the cover it offers

If I hire out equipment, and it's stolen, is it covered?

Yes, up to limits specified in the Policy (when this was written, this is £2,500) subject to several sensible conditions. This is known as Fraudulent Hire, where someone 'hires' from you, then never returns the equipment

The Policy insists you should have:

  1. a)  retained a copy of photographic identification of the hirer by means of either a passport, driving licence or UK Photo ID Card; and

  2. b)  retained a copy of at least two utility bills for the hirer relating to the same premises; an

  3. c)  retained a copy of the credit card details of the hirer; and

  4. d)  only allowed the actual hirer to collect the hire items.

This is not unusual with similar Policies and are sensible precautions if if you are not insured

We always recommend you read the Policy to ensure it's right for you and that you understand the cover it offers

If I hire equipment in, is it covered?

We always recommend you read the Policy to ensure it's right for you and that you understand the cover it offers

Do I need to submit a list of my equipment?

No

If you ever need to claim, then the Insurers may well ask for a proof of purchase, to ascertain that you actually owned the item. However this shouldn't cause an issue as you will have kept records for tax purposes etc.

We always recommend you read the Policy to ensure it's right for you and that you understand the cover it offers

Does my equipment need to be PAT tested?

No, not for it to be covered by the Equipment Insurance or PLI. However the PLI does require equipment to be well maintained, which is of course just what a PAT test proves.
Having an annual PAT test is a very good idea, for your safety and the safety of those who may, even by accident, come into contact with your equipment. However there is no requirement for one in either policy

I can't be bothered to read these FAQ's or the policy, can I call you?

The reason we can offer PLI and Equipment Insurance at such amazing prices, is that all the information you need is here on this website.

The application process and policy download is also fully automated

The more people call us to ask questions already answered here, or in the Policy, the more likely we are to have to hire staff to answer calls. This would mean the price of Membership would go up, and none of us want that.

Please read the information on the website and ONLY AFTER THAT should you:

Use the Online Chat Facility to get in touch (this is open during normal business hours and sometimes on weekends.)

Send us an email. We answer emails pretty quickly too, again please don't bother asking a question that is already answered here.  admin@mobiledjnetwork.co.uk

If all else fails (it really shouldn't!!) Call to ask only something which is not otherwise answered here, or on the Policy - 07711 573 276

Note: Musicians Network are not qualified to offer advice on Insurance, including whether it's right for you. We can only advise on our Memberships and their facilities.

Is my equipment covered in transit?

There are no exclusions regarding this, so yes!
